Aldara Vázquez is a visual artist and predoctoral researcher at the University of Vigo. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo (2022), receiving the Extraordinary End-of-Degree Award (2023). She later expanded her academic training by completing the Master’s in Contemporary Artistic Practices (2023) and the Master’s in Teacher Training with a specialization in Visual Arts and Drawing (2024). Currently, she holds a predoctoral research contract at the University of Vigo within the program Creation and Research in Contemporary Art and is a member of the research group Dx5 [Digital & Graphic Art Research].
Her theoretical research, as well as her artistic practice, delve into the intersection between textile art and Galician cultural tradition, exploring various fabrics and traditional techniques with dedication. Driven by this interest, she has developed skills in handling different traditional looms, establishing a dialogue between artisanal processes and contemporary art. Textile materials, with symbolic weight linked to belonging, the body, and memory—both personal and collective—serve as a vehicle for reflecting on the past and the legacy of anonymous creation, carried out on the margins and edges of artistic territories.
Throughout her career, she has received awards and distinctions for both her academic research and artistic creations. Among them are the Award for Best Final Degree Project on the 2030 Agenda (2022) and the Award for Best Final Master’s Project on the 2030 Agenda (2024). She also received the Artistic Interventions Award in the curatorship category for Zona C in Santiago de Compostela (2022), the First Prize in the Cultural Photography Awards of the University of Vigo (2022), the Third Prize in the Youth Create competition in the photography category (2024), and was a finalist in the Loyola Young Artists Competition (2025), among others. She has participated in various national exhibitions, such as the International TextileFest Exhibition, Transformations (2025) in Igualada, Barcelona.
