Antía Iglesias Fernández is an artist, designer and pre-doctoral researcher. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo in 2019. During her undergraduate years, she made an Erasmus stay at Kingston School of Arts, where she studied monotype, woodcut and silkscreen printing techniques through the artist’s book “One hundred faces”. Master in Art Direction and Advertising at the University of Vigo in 2020, where she developed the editorial, photographic, typographic and objectual project, La Calma;
Since 2020, she has been working on her doctoral thesis within the PhD programme in Creativity, social and sustainable innovation at the University of Vigo. Pre-doctoral contract of the Xunta de Galicia with the project “Biomaterials and matter from the Galician natural environment, applied to the design, printing and manufacture of everyday objects”. In this project she studies with a multidisciplinary perspective: 1. Approaches to the object (ritual, artistic and everyday) from the viewpoints of different communities; 2. Material exploration with plant waste through traditional techniques and new technologies and 3. Biomimetic reproduction through manual graphic techniques.
In 2021, she stayed in French Guiana with the research group L’UMR Eco Fog (Écologie des Forêts de Guyane) registered with the CNRS (Centre National de Recherche Scientifique). During this period she researched on natural representation and the reproduction of textures, seeking to integrate artistic and scientific disciplines.
In her creative and research work she is interested in the confluences between art and craft, art and nature, art and science, and in rethinking graphic processes in line with a more sustainable design and art.
